I got back yesterday but the computer was too busy scanning and such to let me do much of anything, so I gave up. It was a very long two weeks, much more difficult than most.
First of all, the PET actually turned out to be good - no new lesions. I sure didn't expect such wonderful results though. Mom just looked and felt horrible, major stomach and intestional distress, hardly eating, saying she was in pain, and essentially slept two solid days. As it turns out, hopefully anyway, the intestional distress is most probably from a pelvic cyst that is now estimated at 10-12 cm. The doc feels it's pressing on her intestine and causing the problems. I sure hope so because she has zilch for quality of life as it is now. We're still waiting to hear from the hospital about an appointment to aspirate the fluid by needle as the cyst is too big to remove laparoscopically and we're wanting to avoid major surgery at this point.
Anyway, the rectal lesion is virtually gone, liver responded well and is continuing to shrink, old treated lung lesions are gone, and there was no change in the newer lung spot which leads the doc to feel it's scar tissue. If we can just get her bowels and pain under control, along with 6 months or so of good PET scans, I think her frame of mind will greatly improve.
I think I'll be here for about a week as my brother is in from shrimping and staying there. For now, she needs someone there to make sure the messes are cleaned up and ensure she is eating. Thanks for all the well wishes!
