Anyone else's team in the running for the Superbowl?

Anyone else's team in the running for the Superbowl?

Postby jennc » Tue Jan 19, 2010 6:23 pm

My beloved, beloved, beloved New Orleans Saints are one game away from destiny (***knocking wood furiously***). They play the Vikings on Sunday for the NFC Championship. This is a killer because Brett Favre is from a teeny town called Kiln, Mississippi (they call Kiln "The Kill") that is about an hour away. Favre is a local hero somewhat because of his close proximity and he is also a Saints fan. Eek!

For those of you who are not into football and don't care either way, I shamefully beg for a prayer things go our way. For those of you who don't know the history, the Saints have NEVER been to a SB and have only been to the playoffs a handful of times in our 40+ year history. However, Saints fans are die hard, and our blood runs "black and gold." When Katrina hit in 2005, our stadium was torn to shreds and wasn't reopened until the following year. Of course NOLA is still recovering from the effects of Katrina and although shallow and somewhat silly, soooo many people still in "recovery" mode are hanging onto high hopes for this season for dear life. The team's record has been AWESOME for the economy in NOLA, which is something BADLY needed. The devastation that is still remaining in some areas of town is mind-boggling. This AP report sums it up in a pretty decent minute and a half: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQ-WBym-d6E

Soooo, who else is in Superbowl mode? Anyone?

PS: WHO DAT and GEAUX SAINTS!

Skol Vikings, let's win this game,
Skol Vikings, honor your name,
Go get that first down,
Then get a touchdown.
Rock 'em . . . Sock 'em
Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!
Go Vikings, run up the score,
You'll hear us yell for more. . .
V-I-K-I-N-G-S
Skol, Vikings, let's go!

Jenn, we would LOVE to beat the Saints in the Super Bowl! :) I've been a Colts fan since it used to stand for Count On Losing This Sunday! We love football in our house and absolutely LOVE the Colts. I got to go to Lucas Oil stadium this year and it was almost a religious experience. Go HORSE!

Kande, if we don't make it (knocking wood again) I am Colts all the way, cause of course Peyton is from NOLA. In fact, my husband is currently doing a gut and remodel on a house in Uptown New Orleans and the next door neighbors are the Mannings (Archie and Olivia, mom and dad). The Mannings are a class act and have done COUNTLESS good deeds and charitable works for the city.

But if it's the Saints and the Colts, I want them to pound Peyton! LOL.

Sorry.... Vikings here. Actually Dh is a diehard lifelong Cowboys fan, but since my oldest is a diehard Brett Favre fan we're going with the Vikings.

All of our teams are out, sadly. I am bereft!

Can you please explain to me why the NO fans start every word with D?!?!? I don't get it at all!

Jenn, the Mannings are a very wonderful family. He also does a LOT of good in the Indianapolis area as well. I certainly hope he has the stamina of Brett Favre (without all the retiring and coming back attention seeking. I can't STAND that.) Favre is an amazing QB, but I get so tired of the "he's retired, he's not, he's retired" coverage on ESPN before and after football seasons that I want to scream. I also am in love with Adam Viniteri and now Austin Collie. In our house we root for the Colts and whoever are playing the Patriots. HATE the Patriots with a mad fiery passion. I was SO ticked off when the Colts fans at Lucas Oil were Booing little Curtis Painter during the regular season. Who wants a perfect season when you stand a chance of losing the super bowl? NO one will remember a perfect season if you lose the super bowl. Just ask the Patriots. I told one of my friends if they wanted a diva QB and a coach who doesn't give a crap about their players they could go be Patriots fans! :D

It will be an interesting game on Saturday. The Jets won't have it as easy when they beat us the last time, but the Colts have been known to choke in the playoffs as well! I'm nervous just thinking about it!

Vikings here too Jenn! My husband is a huge fan and we haven't been to the Superbowl since the 70s I think so we're all pretty excited in Minnesota!

Side note for those who know who Sydney Rice is (he caught at least one if not two of the fabulous touch downs last weekend). Just over a year ago while recovering from my first foot surgery in December 08. I was at Cub foods getting some groceries both for us and for Brittany's class winter party. It was the first time I walked instead of riding on a scooter and my foot was extremely tired so I went up to the counter to lean on it while waiting to check out. There were three guys checking out (together) and now that I know they were Vikings I suppose they thought I wanted to get close to them and that was why I went up and leaned on the counter when they were there. I was clueless and hurting. After they checked out, they got a coupon for $5 off on their next trip and they didn't want it. I asked if I could have it and they said sure. I told them I'd use it for the school party food. After they left, the cashier whom I know from shopping said something about how they didn't need the coupon when I commented about them leaving it. He said they were Vikings players. Then I realized they probably thought I went and leaned on the counter because I wanted to be close to them, ROFL. He didn't know who they were, but I saw the truck had NC plates and asked DH when I got home who was from there and looked on the team's website and identified Rice. Not sure who was with him, but I did think that was neat that he gave us his cash back coupon and I could use it toward the party food for school.

Sue, now I have that song stuck in my head. Thhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnkkkkkkkkkkkkkssssssssssssssss. :D

I am sort of rooting for the Jets, too. Our former college QB at Mizzou is playing for the Jets. Anytime Brad Smith is in on a play, I am thrilled. He's a scrappy little player.

Bengals have always been my team (as much as I follow football) but Joseph has converted me to the Titans. However, the point of this is that the Bengals are they "Who Dey" team. LMBO.

I’ll join in on the banter. My first loyalty goes to the team I grew up with; the team with 6 SB wins :D the Pittsburgh Steelers (notice I've changed my avatar from the Steelers to the Colts)LOL. However, seeing how I live in Indianapolis, I will cheer for the Colts. I’ll just say we will be seeing one of you in Miami 8) Oh and Erin I'm sorry I really thought we would be playing the Chargers WTH happened?
