Re: "I was the sun, the kids were my planets"

When I was in my first year of university, my mother still expected me to call home every day...and I did. She had more difficulty letting go than I did...and now I can understand why! :) Do you think that's more of a girl/mother thing? Because I can tell you for sure that Matt barely keeps me on a...

Re: "I was the sun, the kids were my planets"

I know...! I am still one year away from sending the first one to college. I don't see how those with grown children do it! (Julie, Anna, Robyn, Wanda...)

"I was the sun, the kids were my planets"

I was the sun, the kids were my planets By Beverly Beckham http://www.boston.com/news/local/articles/2006/08/27/i_was_the_sun_the_kids_were_my_planets?s_campaign=8315 I wasn't wrong about their leaving. My husband kept telling me I was. That it wasn't the end of the world when first one child, then ...

Re: August so far

August started off busy busy too for us and is slowly winding down with school starting next Thursday (26th). Two weeks of band camp for the older two, plus the regular weekly practices. Yesterday was the band picture day, with Matt being a senior, his picture will be in the football programs and on...

Re: staying up late

My husband and my oldest are more naturally night owls. Not me, and definitely not Ryan, who at age 15, is still usually the first person to bed and sleeping, often before 9 p.m. Even in the summer. Dh always stays up later than I do, and even he has given up staying up past my oldest. The only bedt...

Re: Grammar: it's vs its

Agree with all the others and slightly off the topic but not too off the topic, can I say how it just bugs me endlessly when you see people adding 's to the end of names inappropriately to make a plural. That just bugs me. Like writing The Smith's instead of writing The Smiths.

Re: kids and practice time on musical instruments

Oh, and I also wanted to add that my oldest sister has for years and years, said that she wished my Mother had pushed her to stick with piano when she was younger. My Mother was a music teacher AND taught piano for over 25 years, (but never her own kids, we took lessons from someone else) and she le...

Re: kids and practice time on musical instruments

I just want to say, FTR, that I never forced my kids to do something that they absolutely did not want to do. Even though they may not come home bustling with energy each and every day to practice, they are all natural musicians. Now, what they aren't, is natural born athletes! That is for certain. ...

Re: kids and practice time on musical instruments

I don't count marching band as real practicing, while the music is hard, it's not nearly as challenging as the solo audition pieces. Sherrie, I never said the marching band music was easy. Don't get me wrong. Our band picks very challenging pieces as well. Our marching band competes and we took 2nd...

Re: kids and practice time on musical instruments

I respectfully disagree with Maelyn on that if after 2 years if you have to force them to practice, it won't become a lifelong outlet. I can only speak for my children of course, but if I hadn't pushed them (esp Ryan, with his ADHD) they wouldn't have come as far as they have today. Children natural...

Re: kids and practice time on musical instruments

Well if it makes you feel any better, even with kids at my ages, none of them HARDLY ever practice as long as they should, or without Mom nagging! Ryan's trumpet teacher (all of my boys take lessons from professional players) is the toughest and said at Ryan's level he needs to be practicing around ...

yes, that's what I would do. I think for adult cats it can take longer.

Re: Hiss, snarl, growl - help please

I imagine it's also compounded by the fact she is a mama kitty with 4 nursing kittens still. But to be honest, when we got our newest cat, Ajax, a month after our little 3 year old Pikachu died, it took longer for Hobbes and Ajax to get along, then Hobbes and Pikachu. I don't know if it was because ...

Re: Does this sound reasonable?

I agree with the others. And I have to say, I don't know why the Diary of the Wimpy Kid books get such bad press - I personally find them hilarious! I have no problem letting my kids read those (and heck yes it was my current 14 year old that discovered them when he was 12 or so). My boys aren't hug...
